My near brush with fame

I don't think I was on camera at all during the Martha Stewart taping of our shadow puppet segment.  That was fine with me - Meredith did an awesome job showing Martha how to make the puppets and I got to enjoy the show from the comfort of the audience.  I blogged about it on our Orange Moon Toys site if you want to read about that part of our trip.

I was lucky to spend my limited time in NYC with Ewan and Mer.  They were great guides.  Ewan marched our feet to bloody stumps the first day.  We walked a large section of Broadway to see Times Square, the Flat Iron building, the Empire State building, Central Park, and best of all, just soak  up the flavor of Manhattan in general.

The second day we spent mainly at the studio to tape the show.

Day 3 we only had a few hours before we had to leave.  We spent our time on the absolutely frigid Staten Island ferry, from which we saw the Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

We ate great food everyday.  I was called bad names on the subway.  We saw celebreties (Martha, Rupert of the Hello Deli (from The Late Show), and country singer Josh Turner (never mind that I'd not heard of him before the trip)).  We ate NY bagels.  We took lots of cab rides.  We ate pork belly BBQ (which is supposedly trendy at the moment).  We thoroughly enjoyed the people watching.

Perhaps the best part of our trip (aside from taping the show, or course), was visiting Chinatown all 3 days we were there.  We ate a lot of pork dumplings and drank more bubble tea than I should admit.  Chinatown is Mer and Ewan's favorite place in New York and I could see why.  Yum!

And thanks to Grandma "Cookie", I don't know if T even noticed I was gone.

NYC or bust

Kyle's mom is taking care or T so I can gallivant for a few days next week. I'm off to New York to watch my sis teach Martha Stewart how to make our shadow puppets! I'm not sure if I'm more excited about getting to see New York, or the fact that I am not the one with the pressure of the live taping of a national show. Although I heard a rumor Martha will ask me a question or two, I can relax in the audience for the duration. I'm really along for moral support and, well, because it's New York, and I've never been there.

Wait - were you paying attention?!? Martha Stewart's "people" liked our puppets enough to invite us on the show! WOO HOO!!

Watch for us on the Martha Stewart show airing January 12th.
